FTP Settings

FTP (File Transfer Protocol) allows files to be transferred between two computers connected via the Internet. Zeus uses FTP to transfer your Link Directory pages to your web site.

The 3 FTP settings are provided by the company that hosts your web site.

FTP Server or Host Name

The FTP server host name. Each server’s address is unique. You must obtain that address from the service provider who is hosting your web site.

  • 192.209.24.122
  • sample.com
  • ftp.sample.com

FTP Login User Name

Your FTP logon user name was assigned to you when your web site was first setup by your website's administrator. This is probably the same user name you use to log on to your web site with FrontPage, CuteFTP, your HTML Editor, etc. Your  web site's hosting provider provides this unique ID. It is case sensitive. If you do not know what your user ID is, then you need to contact your server administrator for that information.

FTP Login User Password

Your logon password was assigned to you when your web site was first setup. This is probably the same password as used to log on with FrontPage, CuteFTP, your HTML Editor, etc. It is unique, case sensitive, and also provided by your web site's hosting provider. As you cannot see what you are typing into that field, you must use special care not to make any mistakes.

Troubleshooting

Problem 1:
If you are having problems with the 3 initial FTP settings, then try this. This procedure will test the settings using your
computer's Windows FTP program.

  • Click Start/Run (Start is at the lower left corner of your screen)
  • Type into the textbox: ftp YourFTPHostName.com, click OK
  • It comes back with User <YourFTPHostName.com<none>>
  • It wants your User Name, type in: YourFTPUserName, press enter
  • It responds Password>, you type in YourFTPPassword, press return

This basic FTP program is included in all windows operating systems. If you are NOT getting FTP access to your web site, please check with your web site's hosting service for the correct settings. You must have FTP access to your web site.

Play with the Windows FTP program to try to find a combination that works. If you do logon (you'll receive a login message), you can type Quit to disconnect.

Problem 2:

This is an indicator the Use Active FTP Connection setting needs to be changed.
