Email Settings
Important!
Emailing in Zeus works properly with
all web sites and ISPs, IF you have the correct settings from
your ISP (not web hosting service). If Zeus does not email, you have the
wrong settings from your ISP, even if your normal Email Program is sending
email properly.
There are only two Zeus settings that
make a difference whether the program can email or not. They are denoted below with
.
Other reasons or important areas
to read as to why you may not be able to email are denoted with
.
To Edit Your Email Settings:
While Zeus is running: Click
Tools > Options > Email tab.
Top
Your Name:
The name to appear in FROM: for all emails. The webmasters you are emailing will
see this.
Top
Your Email Address:
The return email address for all outgoing emails. You may want to set up a separate email POP account with a unique name such as
links@sample.com. The webmasters you
are emailing will see this. This can be ANY valid email address such as the one
for your web site.
Example: john@sample.com

SMTP Mail Server or Host:

No one
will see this setting in out-going emails.
Most ISPs
demand you use their SMTP outgoing server and NOT your web site's SMTP server.
This is how they control spam.
Supplied by your ISP, NOT your web hosting service. This is the same setting as
in your default email program.
Example:
-
192.209.24.122
-
smtp.bellsouth.net
-
out123.verizon.net
- outgoing.verizon.net
-
sample.com
Contact your Internet Service Provider (not your web host)
and ask them for your SMTP Mail Server. Also ask them if you need an
ESMTP OR email authentication username and password (see
ESMTP
Settings below).

ESMTP Settings

This is
also called 'Authentication'
Contact your Internet Service Provider (not your web host)
and ask if you need an ESMTP OR
Email Authentication username and password. If
you have to log in to your Internet connection, you may need to use those settings.
If your ISP or Internet Log On Company has an
Outlook email program example, in their online support area, enter the SMTP
setting and look to see if there are Authentication settings to be entered.

Saving Your Settings
Click the 'Save ' button after you have entered all your
settings.

Other Problems:
Anti-Virus and Security programs
Close your anti-virus software and
then try to send email.
This is a VERY COMMON reason that 3rd party email programs, like Zeus, can
not send email. Even if Outlook sends email, programs like Antivirus,
Firewall and Security have been known to block outgoing email.
Check their program documentation to add the Zeus program to their Approved
list.
Norton Antivirus -
Turning off outgoing email scanning.
Products): Norton AntiVirus
2003, Norton AntiVirus 2003 Professional Edition, Norton AntiVirus 2004,
Norton AntiVirus 2004 Professional, Norton AntiVirus 2005, Norton AntiVirus

Common
Questions:
How do I know when an email was
sent?
When an email is sent correctly,
Zeus will add the date and email sent to the 'Email History' box on the
right side of the Email area.

I keep getting
this message when sending e-mail. not sent - ERROR 20002, Unexpected server

I get the
following message when sending e-mail. not sent - ERROR 20002, Unexpected
server response.... Not a Gateway
These error messages indicate
you have the wrong settings in Zeus email options. This should be the
setting your ISP (Internet Service Provider ) gave you for sending e-mail.
If this setting is from your ISP, they may have filters in place for you.
Check with their support department. Tell them that you are using a 3rd
party email program and send them the error message.

If you see 500 series errors,
the SMTP server setting is correct, as Zeus and the SMTP are connecting. The
SMTP server sent back a 500 series error, so you know they are talking.
If you DO NOT have
ESMTP or Authentication settings entered, enter
them.
If you HAVE
ESMTP or Authentication settings entered,
delete them, making sure all spaces are removed from both text boxes.
Mail access temporarily
suspended
This error indicates that the
e-mail server may have filters in place for that account. The e-mail server
may be set to only accept a few e-mails at a time from users. This may be
because of Spam and they are trying to stop bulk e-mail programs from
sending tons of e-mail through their server. Zeus is not a bulk e-mail type
program. Send them this answer and see what they say.

Specific ISPs
The following does not mean this
is everything known about sending emails using these ISPs. These are
snippets from support tickets.
Verizon - Requires
Email Authentication. The password is
the one assigned to you when you signed up or the one used to log on to
their web site.
Earthlink
- Requires Email Authentication. Use
your complete EarthLink email address as your user name:
you@earthlink.net. The password is
the one assigned to you when you signed up or the one used to log on to
their web site.
Yahoo - You will
need a SMTP mail account if you do not already have one. If you request it
from their support, it can be added. Enter the settings, in their email
support area, for Outlook. Enter your User name and Password in the
ESMTP settings.
SBC Global - They filter
their emails. Let them know you are using Zeus and you are not sending spam.
Bellsouth - Does not
require ESMTP settings or Authentication.
